Definition of strong authentication

The aim of strong authentication is to verify the identity that an entity (person or machine) claims as its own. In general, authentication is preceded by the identification of said entity, which enables it to be recognized by the system thanks to a component in its possession. In other words, identifying oneself means confirming a previously registered identity, and authenticating oneself means providing proof of that identity.
